Although the U.S. dollar is stronger than the India Rupees, many of India’s important monuments and historical sights charge admission fees. These admission fees, unfortunately, are much higher for foreigners and can cause tourists to spend more than they were expecting to. Instead, here are five free things to do while visiting India.- Enjoy a festival- there are numerous festivals held throughout the year which offer visitors a fun way to learn and see Indian culture.
- Relax on the beach- the best Indian beaches are found on the west coast. Here the beaches are picturesque and popular. The most popular beaches are in Goa.
- Visit a temple- Although most temples charge an admission fee, the following are free to the public: the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Jama Masjid in Delhi, the Galta Monkey Temple in Jaipur, and the Buddhist Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya.
- Observe the architecture- Several parts of ancient abandoned cities are free to enter such as Hampi and Mandu. Also visit Mumbai and see the huge colonial architecture, such as the Prince of Wales Museum.

- Go for a walk through India’s nature- Enjoy a walk through several gardens many of which are free in Delhi. Take a stroll at Lodi Gardens or the Garden of Five Senses. Also visit the Kamala Nehru Park in Mumbai.
